Schedule your one-on-one session now for help with summer reading books. These one-hour sessions will cover plot, characters, and themes of the summer reading book. I need at least two weeks notice to prepare a lesson plan with worksheets for the study session.
Several schools require a book report and study guide to be completed over the summer. I will not do these for the student; as a tutor, I will assist the student in understanding the text and completing the assignments on his or her own.

Services Offered:
Rhonda currently offers tutoring services for literature and grammar to junior high and high school students in the Pike County Alabama area. During the summer, Rhonda's tutoring includes (but is not limited to) one-on-one study of summer reading books. Tutoring services for literature and grammar are $30 per hour.
Rhonda also offers tutoring in writing, specializing in research writing. As a high school teacher, Rhonda has learned that the classroom environment does not offer the necessary one-on-one interaction necessary for the students to learn all aspects of research writing. *Rhonda will not write a paper for students.* Instead, Rhonda's services include development of ideas in outlines, researching and citing sources, improving diction and sentence structure, and proofreading/editing the final paper. Tutoring services for writing are $40 per hour.
Online tutoring is available after the initial face-to-face meeting. Cost of online tutoring services will depend on the type of service needed and will be discussed after the first meeting.

Why Rhonda?
Writing has been my passion since childhood, and I finally received the nudge needed to pursue a career in literature and writing when I was a freshman in college at Troy University in Troy, Alabama. A professor pulled me aside after class and told me that my life would be wasted should I choose to not use my God-given talent of writing. When I became a high school teacher, I soon realized that my writing talents are most useful when I'm passing along my skills and passion to my students. I also realized that the classroom setting does not provide the necessary one-on-one focus most students need when learning to write effectively.
With the prevalence of text messaging and social sites like Facebook, youth are struggling with grammar and writing, confusing "text language" with correct grammar. Students cannot help this confusion because they honestly do not know the correct way to write or speak. Without specialized attention, these patterns will not improve. I hope to change this downward spiral through my tutoring services.
